Update 1.1 - Crafting & Map Generation


Let's begin with the generic "Changes" section, and go on from there.

Changes:

  • Changed the Building Menu's Design
  • Added a Workbench
  • Added a Crafting System
  • Added a Wooden Plank
  • Upgraded the Map Generation System
  • Day & Night Cycle
  • Sprinting
  • Volumetric Water

I'd recommend you to delete your old Savegame in /Appdata/LocalLow/Arkeyan Games/Forest of Freedom before starting this version as this may cause problems otherwise.

Now, let's go over to the crafting system. Opposed to other games, for example Fallout, where your inventory is nearly limitless, or Animal Crossing, where crafting times are more of a chore than anything, in this game, I tried to combine some of the most interesting crafting mechanics of gaming.


So, similar to minecraft, you're able to discover new Recipes by yourself, with a near limitless amount of possibilities, while still keeping the diegetic nature of games like Scrap Mechanic and also combining the lack of possible Inventory Room from this game and Hydroneer.
All in all, I have tried expanding Hydroneers system by quite a bit.

Thanks to this (hopefully) solid foundation, I will later be able to expand this diegetic crafting system into other areas like woodworking, knapping or blacksmithing, removing crafting from it's more traditional position in games as an "inner" system to an "outside" system. By this I am trying to get crafting back into the core game loop and removing it's bad stigma, that was earned by games trying to get a quick buck from the crafting hype, that originated from Minecraft.
